Data Puller (beta): build timelines from open public data

AtlasTrack Update

Search Wikidata, tick the facts you want, and AtlasTrack turns them into atlases and events. No typing dates by hand.

Starting a timeline used to mean typing every date by hand. The new Data Puller fetches real, openly licensed data and converts it for you.

  • Wikidata: search for a person, war, space mission, company or almost anything else. Every dated fact is collected and grouped into key dates (born, died, founded), linked events (battles, wars, missions, parts), dated statements (positions held, marriages, awards) and items linked to it.
  • You choose what goes in: tick single events or whole groups. Then put them in one atlas, one atlas per group, or an atlas you already have. Periods can come in as start dates or as full ranges.
  • Pull again to refresh: pulling the same item again updates it in place and keeps your own titles, colors and settings.
  • Openly licensed sources: the built-in sources are limited to public-domain, CC0 and CC BY data. Images are only included when their own license allows it, and every event keeps its source link and credit. You're still responsible for how you use what you publish.

No project open? The Data Puller creates one for you. Open it from the database button in the top bar or the New Atlas inspector. On phones, it's under ⋯ → Pull public data. More sources arrived on October 4: see Data Puller: music, company figures and your own data.

Try it yourself. AtlasTrack is free and runs right in your browser.
