What is a multitrack timeline?
A multitrack timeline shows several separate timelines stacked on top of each other, all sharing one time axis. Each track holds its own events. Because the tracks line up by time, you can see what was happening in parallel: which events overlap, which come first, and where two tracks drift apart.
The same idea appears in video editing software, where each track carries a clip, and in project planning, where each track is a team or a workstream. A multitrack timeline brings that layout to any kind of dated information.
How it works in AtlasTrack
One cursor drives every track
Each track is an atlas: its own set of events, laid out chronologically. Single points, duration bars, and dense clusters are all supported, and clusters group and expand as you zoom. A single playhead moves through all the tracks at once, so the view of one track always matches the others at the same moment in time.
Graphs and slides on the same timeline follow that cursor too. A chart of a metric updates as the playhead moves, and a slide can show the text that belongs to the moment you are on.
Where people use them
Common uses
Multitrack timelines suit any work where several sequences run side by side:
- Project plans with one track per team, and milestones that line up across them
- Historical or story chronologies with one track per character, region, or thread
- Research notes where several sources report events on their own dates
- Production schedules where stages overlap and dependencies need to stay visible
Get started
Build your first multitrack timeline
Open AtlasTrack in your browser, create an atlas for each track, and add your events. Then scrub the playhead to see how the tracks relate. AtlasTrack is currently in public beta.
